I have been on IV for last 3 yrs almost & I recall my days when only way to get help on immigration was talking to the lawyers. Since I joined IV this thing defintely changed...& I feel that I am attached to a community trying to achieve a common goal and common good. IV has done a splendid job in getting the community united at the grassroots ....even some of initiators of the group have got their GCs, I still see them involved, which is a great thing. Why blame IV for the legislation failures? Blame congress for it & even 75% of Americans feel Congress is not doing their job.
Nothing is perfect in life, in market place & in the world. Also sense of purpose of service may differ for everyone & at different times. I treat myself as a consumer of services provided by IV & I have rated the services I get from IV at www.IDNTITI.com (Immigration Voice is getting a score of 8.7/10 for the services I get from it) I invite everyone to come and rate Immigration voice.
Now a brief on IDNTITI.com, We are positioned as an �Identity & Reputation management� company. You can voice your impressions on People & Companies to begin with through an innovative rating system in the marketplace � which is based on user-generated parameters/attributes and on web 2.0 principles.

We are June 15th, 2007 filers. We got our APs and EADs. There have been no more updates on mine or my spouse's 485 applications. But our son's 485 application had a LUD in September and again a couple of days ago. Does that by any chance mean that our son's NC is cleared and our's is stuck ?

Cancelled my tickets already.
Based on your case, if they ask us the documents after 16 odd days.. I would say I am doomed. My employer( Not consulting company) might create problems.

As per the current 'rules' EB1, EB2, EB3 are given EQUAL preference .... countrywise
My guess is that EB3 has more people in line - for the same reason that there are more people with Bachelors than those with PhDs.
If only USCIS/DHS give an accurate(!) number of apps in each category ... then we can make some informed decision instead of hoping for something like Jul 07.
Depending on what line we are in - we want that to move not slower (than others). And one of the fundamental concepts in queueing theory is that " as the system gets congested, servicing delay increases"
Like i read in friedman's book ... paraphrased - "If someone lost a job - the um-employment rate is not 5% or 10% - it is 100%"

StuckInMuck thanks for the awesome compilation. I have a follow-up question to the guru's on forum.
I did an AC21 before my GC got approved. I did this on my EAD card and when I joined I filed my I9 form for taxes. Now after getting GC do I need to renew my I9 form or the old one stays valid?
Also since I am not with my GC sponsoring employer do I still need to follow the 6 months rule with my current employer since date of approval?
Also can we move this compilation to IV Wiki?

Calls from legal aliens who can't vote won't move lawmakers one bit. Money and votes are the only 2 things that matter to politicians.
Pressure groups and lobbyists have far more reach and influence. IV as a group can use lobbyists and other influence to get a lot more done. Individual phone calls are a waste.

There's a book put out by three 'scholars' from the Manhattan Institute with an innocuous title and everything else inside it anything but! The debate is being pushed to dangerous new grounds - while many openly say that all of America's immigration problems began in the 60's, code for colored people allowed in legally, one author said it was 'wrong' to link opening up immigration to all races (by abolishing hemispherical quota) and the civil-rights movement. Ofcourse he didn't say why. They always have to make a big point about Kennedy predicting that immigration wouldn't surge with the 60's act but why the 'surge' is a bad thing in itself is never fully explained - making use of hazy data and cause and effects that are highly diffuse to be really a true 'cause/effect' is the scholarly methodology used.And ofcourse he also argued that previous waves of immigration are different from the current ones but when the argument is brought up that immigrants eventually assimilate suddenly history is no guidance - in other words don’t look at history now! Given the complete lack of spine or commonsense of IV browsers, one can only hope this is just an ugly cycle that plays itself out and decent people recover their sensibility

Did it occur to anyone that we are only talking about compensating Aman the $64k he spent already. Imagine if he had made use of that $64k as an investment(let us say a safe investment with minimum returns) of that amount it should have exceeded that $64k value by now.
The least we can do at this moment is to immediately refund Aman and other core team members the amount they have spent towards the administrative costs of IV. Pappu / Logic Life / Other core team members, please let us know what kind of legal/administrative action is required to get this done.
We will immediately start a funding drive towards filling in this shortage from the total IV funds. IMHO on the longer run the smaller funds ($10, $20 etc) should not be neglected.
Let us figure out the required amount and have a new thread started about this. This settlement should be treated with high priority before any other funding drive. Pledging my $200 towards this.

He even risked his job and went to DC on unpaid leave at critical times because lobbying was important for getting our work done. We in the core team know this and when we see the kind of contributions we get from members, we feel disappointed that our efforts are not valued. When we started the $20 contributions people felt $20 was too high and wanted $10 per month or less. The kind of work and effort that is needed to push a single provision is phenomenal and needs lot of capital. The more the better. Sometimes reading posts that say IV core is selfish also disappoints us. People do not know the effort that goes in getting anything done. This website is simply a tool for us to communicate to everyone. The big effort is the lobbying work. This fellow who wrote this might be one of those arm chair critics who just criticizes everything if it doesn't favor that individual. What a moron. I am sure this fellow is clueless about how much effort is put into to make a legislation.
There has been lot of work done by many IV volunteers just to get a bill introduced. It is so stupid just to trash talk the efforts put in by the selfless IV volunteers.
All IV members has to be proud that we have been able to get a bill that addresses the GC backlogs. Hey one year back lawmakers were clueless about EB GC issues. Now majority of the lawmakers atleast have an understanding about EB GC issues. It is a matter of time before we succeed.
The easiest guage for the success of the IV efforts is to see the response U get from the lawmakers when U write to them about GC issues. Earlier U used to get a generic reply about undocumented workers and broken borders, nowadays U would be getting replies that talk about EB immigration. Isn't that an achievement. As a professional aren't U proud that U are give the respect U deserve rather than getting clubbed with undocumented workers. Ask for U'r self?

This is one of the important threads. It's really time to cleanse the system and imbibe faith in the employer/employee relationship.
We do see such threads on the forum occasionally where the employee is being cheated/asked to sign a contract/is not being paid on bench/employer is threatening etc etc... There are several instances where members have posted negative comments about consulting companies and how employees are unhappy working for them.
Is this really true?
I want to understand the reasons why people are not filing lawsuits against such companies yet? Why are we not reporting them to DOL and USCIS? Especially after filing I485 and expiry of 6 months, people are in a better position to file lawsuits against such employers.
IV can help only if people are willing to be helped and ready to take action.
